- About Us | HNBAR Offical
ABOUT US FOUNDED FROM COMPASSION | FUELED BY COMMUNITY | FOCUSED ON HEALING Harmony New Beginnings animal Rescue (HNBAR) began with a single act of kindness. In 2006, founder Joy Laudahl stepped in to help a grieving widow care for her late husband's horses. That moment changed everything. Calls for help didn't stop - and neither did Joy. On August 3, 2011, HNBAR became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and since then, we've rescued over 700 animals. Today, Harmony New Beginnings is run entirely by dedicated volunteers - no one draws a salary. We are powered by the generosity of donors, grants, and our local community. We provide critical care for abused, neglected, abandoned, and at-risk dogs, horses, livestock, and other domestic animals. Each animal receives veterinary care, proper nutrition, emotional rehabilitation, and the chance to be placed in a safe, loving forever home. WHAT WE DO - AND WHY WE NEED YOU We work closely with Animal Control officers, county shelters, and hospice programs to rescue animals that would otherwise be left behind or euthanized. Without organizations like ours, many of these animals would face slaughter or ongoing neglect. Animals come to us with deep physical and emotional wounds. Some are seized from cruelty cases. Others are surrendered due to illness, poverty, or end-of-life circumstances. Every animals is given the care, compassion, and second chance they deserve. Our work also touches people. We've had the honor of reuniting hospice patients with their pets, providing comfort in their final days. We also invite visitors to the rescue to meet the animals, hear their stories, and experience the healing power of animal connection firsthand. Animals don't just heal - they help others heal, too. But this work is only possible with your support. No one draws a salary and we receive no government funding. Every dollar you give goes directly toward saving lives - covering medical care, shelter, food, and rehabilitation. A donation of any size helps abused and neglected animals get the fresh start they deserve. At Harmony new Beginnings, we believe that healing can be found through animal therapy. We know that animals can reduce stress, anxiety and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness, and even improve your cardiovascular health. Caring for an animal can help children grow up to be more secure and active. Pets also provide valuable companionship for older adults. Perhaps most importantly though, a pet can add joy and unconditional love to your life. THE COMPASSION WE BUILD IN OUR CHILDREN TODAY WILL HELP ENSURE A FUTURE FOR THE ANIMALS. WHY IT MATTERS Every animal we rescue matters. Each life saved is a story rewritten - from suffering to safety, from fear to trust. But we can't do it alone. Will you help us give these animals a new beginning? MAKE A DONATION SEND WISH LIST SUPPLIES MEET THE FOUNDERS Joy Laudahl is the founder of HNBAR. - Adoption Process | HNBAR Offical
ADOPTION PROCESS EVERYTHING IS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE ANIMALS Our policy at this time is to adopt our animals to families that live locally in Oregon and parts of Washington. This allows us to help support you and the animal better after adoption, and if there is a need to return the animal for any reason if makes that process easier for everyone, but most importantly for the animal. WE DO NOT SHIP ANIMALS. All adoptions require a contract. At Harmony New Beginnings Animal Rescue, we specialize in physical and nutritional rehabilitation for the animals in our care. As a result, many of these wonderful animals will require their new families to provide additional training and support. Since each animal is unique and may have had varying levels of training, we can't guarantee their behavior in a new environment. Animals often adapt differently in new settings, so it's essential to ensure the best fit for both you and your new companion. To help you make this important decision, we offer a 30-day trial adoption period. During this time, you can welcome your new pet into your home and see how they settle in. If, for any reason, you decide it's not the right fit, you can return the animal and receive a refund of your adoption fee. After the 30-day trial period, animals can still be returned; however, refunds are not available after this time. Please note that finding placement may take longer depending on space and foster availability. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work to secure appropriate placement before the animal can be returned. Beginner-friendly horses, often referred to as "babysitter" or "husband" horses are truly special companions. While they often don't end up in rescue centers, they do occasionally become available. Most horses in our care will need new owners to work with them to understand their existing training and identify areas for further development. We highly recommend partnering with a reputable trainer when adopting or purchasing a new horse to ensure a smooth transition and the best possible experience for both you and your equine companion. There is no adoption application. You can contact us about the animal you are interested in through Facebook Messenger or text 503-569-1969 with your name, contact info, and which animal(s) you are interested in meeting. We will then contact you to discuss the animal and take the time to get to know you a bit and what you are looking for in your animal companion. Then we will schedule a meet & greet. Send Us A Facebook Message MEET & GREETS Since many of our animals come from abuse and neglect situations, we need to know that there is a good match between the adopter and the animal. Sometimes the pictures and background sound perfect, but when the adopter and animal actually meet, there is not a connection between the two. Meet & greet sessions are held by appointment and the session usually runs an hour or more. You will only meet with the specific animal(s) you are interested in and ones that we feel match with you best. Unfortunately, we are not able to do meet & greets with every animal that is available for adoption since we have so many animals to care for. We have to be mindful of our time so that the animals are getting the care that they need and deserve. Please arrive on time for your appointment, as we have other scheduled appointments and daily tasks to attend to afterward. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. A few things to keep in mind about our adoption process: Some adoptions will require that a home check is made before placing the animal. This depends on the animal and its history. We may require a background check. We reserve the right to deny an adoption for any reason, as we always have to keep the well-being of our rescues as the top priority.
